ADF Invests $220 Million in High-Tech Greenhouses to Transform Saudi Agriculture

Saudi Arabia, 2025
Saudi Arabia’s Agricultural Development Fund (ADF) has allocated SAR 825 million ($220 million) between 2021 and 2025 to advance high-tech greenhouse farming across the Kingdom. The initiative aims to modernize local food production, boost year-round yields, and drastically reduce water consumption—key for a country with limited natural water resources.

These next-generation greenhouses utilize precision irrigation, automated climate control, energy-efficient lighting, and AI-powered crop monitoring. Some systems have cut water use by up to 90% compared to traditional methods, making them central to Saudi Arabia’s sustainable agriculture strategy.

The program supports both large-scale farms and emerging agri-entrepreneurs, with funding covering up to 70% of capital costs. It also includes technical support, training, and collaboration with private sector partners to accelerate widespread adoption.

Mohammed AlQurashi, Founder of Saudi FoodTech, commented: “This investment empowers farmers to adopt smart agriculture solutions that make food production more efficient, resilient, and sustainable—laying the groundwork for the future of farming in Saudi Arabia.”
