Saudi Arabia, 2025
Saudi Arabia saw a rise in demand for alternative proteins in the first quarter of 2025, driven by changing consumer preferences, health awareness and sustainability goals. Sales of plant-based meat and dairy substitutes increased across retail and hospitality channels, supported by marketing campaigns and expanded product availability.
Local startups and global brands are responding to growing interest from younger consumers and urban markets. The category has also gained visibility through government-aligned initiatives supporting food innovation and dietary diversification.
Commenting on the trend, Mohammed AlQurashi, Founder of Saudi FoodTech, said: “The surge in demand for alternative proteins reflects a global trend reaching Saudi Arabia. We are seeing more entrepreneurs and companies build for this space and consumers are responding. As the category evolves, it’s important that we support local R&D, enable testing and help bring new products to market that meet Saudi tastes and nutritional goals. It’s a space with real long-term potential.”
Saudi FoodTech is working with startups in the sector through innovation challenges, market access support and connections to investors and research partners.
