Foodiq Introduced to the Saudi Foodtech Ecosystem Through Academic Collaboration with King Abdulaziz University
Saudi Foodtech announces the introduction of Foodiq, a Finland-based food technology company, to the Saudi Foodtech ecosystem through its collaboration with King Abdulaziz University (KAU).
Founded in 2015, Foodiq works globally with food manufacturers, universities, and research institutions to advance food processing through clean-label production, applied research, and sustainable manufacturing practices. The company’s Multi-Layer Cooker (MLC) technology integrates multiple food processing steps into a single system, enabling faster transitions from research and development to scalable production.
As part of its presence in Saudi Arabia, a Foodiq MLC pilot unit has been installed at the Food and Nutrition Research Centre at King Abdulaziz University. The setup supports applied research, student-led innovation, and the translation of academic work into practical food applications.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Sarah Haddad from Foodiq said:
“This collaboration with King Abdulaziz University reflects our belief that meaningful innovation in food technology starts at the intersection of research and real-world application. By placing the MLC within an academic environment, we aim to support researchers, startups, and students in developing scalable, clean-label food solutions.”
From the academic perspective, Dr. Doaa Altuwairki of King Abdulaziz University highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative:
“This collaboration with Foodiq reflects a proactive shift within our academic department, driven by an early recognition of the growing role of innovation in food manufacturing in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Through the Food & Nutrition Research Centre, we have created a platform for applied research and engagement with the FoodTech ecosystem. The inauguration of the MLC Lab positions the university as an academic incubator for advanced food technologies and serves as a practical bridge between academia and industry.”
The inauguration of the MLC Lab also showcased innovative food concepts developed by faculty members and researchers, emphasizing sustainability, competitiveness, and the use of locally sourced Saudi ingredients.
This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 objectives related to food innovation, local research and development, sustainability, and talent development within the food sector.
Saudi Foodtech will continue to highlight initiatives that strengthen the Kingdom’s food and innovation ecosystem through research, knowledge sharing, and ecosystem engagement
